PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The American Super Soldier Program was originally set up to create paranormals to counter Nazi Germany's Ubermensch Program. The first two projects, Project: Super Soldier and Project: Super Trooper focused on development of paranormal producing serums. The projects were supervised by the Defense Department and were canceled at the end of World War II.

The Department of Defense decided to revive the "super soldier" program in the early fifties. The aim of Project: Super Warrior was to use a series of specialized training and conditioning programs to produce super agents. The project was canceled after an agent went rogue.

With Project: Defender, The Department of Defense revived the search for a paranormal producing serum. Several scientists from Project: Super Trooper were commissioned to reproduce and refine its serum. The project was canceled when the new serum only produced three paranormals.

Project: Ares was the brainchild of Dr. Albrecht von Hausser, a scientist from Project: Super Soldier. Dr. von Hausser convinced the Department of Defense that he could produce a refined version of the Project: Super Soldier serum. The project was canceled when sixteen of the eighteen paranormals produced died after a few months from an unknown form of cancer.

After a string of non-productive projects, The Department of Defense canceled all efforts to produce a "super-soldier." They decided to focus on procurement of better equipment instead of a paranormal soldier. All staff and data were transferred to the newly created Paranormal Studies Program run by the Department of Health.

In 1974, Congress mandated the formation of the Federal Security Service. The FSS personnel roster is to include a group of federal marshals with paranormal abilities. Staffers at the Paranormal Studies Program convinced their superiors that they could produce the paranormals needed by the FSS. The PSP proposal was accepted and Project: Avenger was born. Project: Avenger was the most successful super serum project in the American Super Soldier Program. Project: Avenger produced fifty paranormals, forty of which were inducted into the FSS.

Project: Atlas was a clandestine project ran by a special projects group within the US Army that sought to reproduce an improved version of the Project: Ares serum. Project: Atlas was unauthorized by the official chain of command and the program was canceled when it was discovered by a GSA audit.

Project: Watchman was the first attempt by the Department of Defense to produce super-soldier equipment instead of a super-soldier. The program was successful in that it produced ten highly capable armored battle suits. But the program was canceled because of the high per unit cost of the battle armor.

Project: Guardsman was established to develop a light highly mobile and hard hitting suit of armor for use by the United States Special Forces Alpha Response Force. Three designs were produced by the project and are currently in service with the USSF-ARF.
