Secret History:
Project: Avenger produced ten paranormals that were not inducted into the Federal Security Service. These individuals could not meet the physical requirements of the FSS and were dismissed from government service. Each was given a pension for their previous government service and participation in Project: Avenger. They were also asked to voluntarily check in with the Paranormal Studies Program for physicals and medical testing on a quarterly basis. The PSP monitoring program was discontinued after 15 years due to budget constraints.
Paranormal Community - Secrets:
The ten paranormals that could not meet the physical requirements of the FSS suffered from a neuromuscular disorder. This disorder caused unpredictable spells of weakness followed by episodes of mild muscle tremors then violent muscle spasms. Numerous drug therapies were tried but none were able to completely control the problems associated with the disorder. When the agents were released from government service, they were supplied with the drug regimen that had proved most effective in combating the disorder. Pensions were given to the agents since their "disability" was linked to the Project: Avenger serum. The medical testing program allowed the agents’ conditions to be monitored and their treatments to be adjusted accordingly. After fifteen years of monitoring, the drug treatments were standardized to the point that the Paranormal Studies Program discontinued the program.
Paranormal Community - Secrets Beyond Secrets:
The ten agents from Project: Avenger that were not inducted into the Federal Security Service had no physiological issues to prevent their joining the agency. Their problems were psychological. After undergoing treatment with the Project: Avenger serum, the agents starting exhibiting bipolar behaviors and were deemed unfit for FSS duty. Each was given a pension for their previous government service and participation in Project: Avenger. They were also assigned to participate in a Paranormal Studies Program project that conducted psychological screening and other medical testing on a monthly basis. The PSP soon discovered a drug regimen for minimizing the bipolar behavioral swings of the agents. The PSP reported the agents’ progress to the FSS. After a review of the PSP report, the FSS decided against activating the agents.
The FSS informed the agents of the decision not to activate them. Due to their background and previous training the FSS recommended that the agents contact the Arrington Institute for employment. Shortly after the FSS’ revealed their decision, the Arrington Institute contacted the agents. They were invited as a group to attend a meeting with the Dr. Robert Stewart, head of the Institute. After discussing it amongst themselves, the agents agreed to the meeting. At the meeting, Dr. Stewart explained to the agents the nature of the Arrington Institute and offered the agents positions as field operatives.
The agents were used as field investigators for Arrington Institute special projects. Their assignments usually involved gathering information in support of FSS and Orion operations. The agents also conducted covert operations against paranormal criminal groups operating outside of the United States.
It was during one such operation in Austria against the Grand Empire that the agents were lost. Five of the agent team’s bodies were found along with several dead Grand Empire agents. Investigation of the failed mission determined that for some unknown reason four of the agents turned on the others. The four turncoats were responsible for the deaths of their five former associates. The turncoats have since been identified as operatives on several Grand Empire missions. The fate of the last agent is unknown. Her body was not found nor has she been identified as operating with the Grand Empire.
