History:
The Alpha Response Force Light Air Scout (LAS-1) Battlesuit was built to fill a niche that army commanders have been dreaming about since the dawn of combat, a small one-man tactical air support platform. The A.R.F. mission calls for light and highly deployable combat troopers. The LAS-1 Battlesuit provides integral air support within this force structure model.
Project: Guardsman started design development of the LAS-1 Battlesuit after reviewing a concept study for a flying battlesuit from Project: Forge's Integrated Battlesuit Group. The initial budget projections for Project: Guardsman meant that if such a system could be developed it would have to be from generally available technology with as little specially developed components as possible. This requirement caused many problems in developing the flight stabilizer components for the LAS-1 Battlesuit. A bit of out-of-the-box design philosophy in adapting some existing technologies allowed the project design staff to resolve the issues with a minimal redesign of the flight stabilization components. As a small, light personal combat system the LAS-1, shares the designation of Battlesuit with its sister project the HGA-1.
The successful deployment of the LAS-1 Battlesuit provided the Alpha Response Force with the only mass-produced military tactical air support battlesuit in the world.
