History:
The Steel Squad Battle Armor was commissioned to provide the military with an integrated armor and weapons system that would make a single soldier as capable as the average paranormal. Project: Watchman and Dr. Arthur Ventura were charged with achieving this objective.
The project started with the designs from the Integrated Battlesuit Group of Project: Forge. The project produced several key component systems and prototypes prior to Dr. Ventura's arrest on charges of fraud, espionage, selling classified government materials and treason.
Dr. Avery George took over the project and two prototypes, designated SS-1, were produced based on a redesign of Ventura's original prototypes. The two prototypes were rated very highly in testing but were deemed too expensive for production.
Dr. George and the project's military advisors reached a scaled down compromise design. That design was designated SSA-1 and a production run of fifty was approved. Only twelve SSA-1 Battle Armor units were delivered prior to the cancellation of Project: Watchman. These units were assigned to the U.S. Army Special Forces Alpha Response Force to provide integral heavy close combat support for the unit.
